Owner Martin Rude, had a long-held love of old castles and barns which inspired he and his wife, Cheryl, to start the Barns @ Timber Creek venture. Castles in Kansas seemed a stretch but barns were a definite possibility. They found 35 acres with a stone barn just north of Winfield and began the journey. A second barn built with beams and hickory pegs in Oxford (11 miles east of Winfield) was found and donated on the condition that it would be taken down piece by piece and moved! They did it!. Students from the local high school advanced graphics class put the plans, that were in Martin's head, on basic blueprints and a local bank, CornerBank, believed in the Rudes' dream with a loan. Their two kids, grew up thinking barn building was a part of everyday life. Everyone survived, learned a lot, and opened the doors of the B&B beam barn in 2004. The restoration of the stone barn was completed in 2011.

History of Timber Creek

G.W. Yount planted orchards, quarried stone, and raised a family on the banks of Timber Creek. The history of his time is kept alive through the Barns at Timber Creek. The original stone barn is on the National Historic Register and stands as a testament to the hard work of a fine craftsman. B&B hosts Martin and Cheryl Rude moved an 1890s post and beam barn to the property, reconstructed it and have added the comforts of today to the buildings of yesterday. Plan to stay in one of the guest rooms for your special celebrations, quiet getaways, retreats, group gatherings, or family reunions.
